Welcome to the Science Faculty. We are a thriving and successful faculty teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Science throughout the school. Our team comprises of a Head of Faculty, Head of Biology, Head of Chemistry, Head of Physics and Head of Key Stage 3 Science as well as 16 other teachers and seven laboratory technicians.
For many years we have also successfully hosted trainee teachers who have all gone on to find positions in other schools or within this department.
We teach Science and Additional Science at GCSE in Years 10 and 11 as well as separate Sciences (GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics) in Years 9 and 10. In the Sixth Form Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught at both AS and A2 as well as Level 3 BTEC Applied Science. The numbers of students choosing to take the Sciences in the Sixth Form have grown in the recent past and are currently very high. A large number of our students choose to study Science, Medicine, Engineering and other technical subjects at some of the best universities in the country.
In addition to our taught curriculum, we also offer a range of extra-curricular activities, including the Biology Field Trip, lectures from research scientists, a Science and Engineering Club and a Book Club.
The aim for the department over the next few years is to maintain the high standards already achieved and to continue to attract large numbers of students at Key Stage 5.
