Curriculum Intent

• All students will make strong progress in music
• Students who participate in extracurricular music clubs and/or have instrumental lessons will be encouraged to take GCSE and A-level music.
• Students will learn about music from different eras and areas of the world.
• Students will enjoy music and be confident performers and composers.
• Reading and oracy strategies will support the school’s wider strategies.
• Students will be given opportunities to have exposure to professional performances.
• Quality first teaching and assessment for learning will be exemplary.

Curriculum Implementation

• Teachers will ensure that students understand the place of each learning within sequences of learning.
• Students’ creative skills will be developed.
• Clear routines/expectations in place for transitions, presentation of work/DIRT, pair/group work etc.
• Use of musical terminology used throughout the lesson
• Regular use of glossaries to support written work, class discussions and feedback.
• KS4-rote learning tested to embed key terminology.
• Students will be given opportunities at least once a half term to perform and evaluate each other’s work
• Knowledge/skills reviews will take place after each sequence of learning.
• Students will be trained to select and use resources independently (BBBB).
• Exercise books/folders will be developed as key resources with standardised presentation and key terminology glossary
• Homework will be used to consolidate and extend knowledge and skills at KS4.
• Targeted and differentiated questioning
• DA and other “at risk” students will have priority questions.
• Written questions will enable all students to practise and stretch their learning appropriately
• A.D.E. questions will support developed answers and challenging questions for the most able.
