A level law is delivered across Year 12 and Year 13. The AQA specification provides students the opportunity secures their understanding of the English legal system, including parliamentary law making, Judicial precedence, Delegated legislation, Alternative dispute resolution, UK courts, legal personnel.  Students gain an insight into Criminal law and tort law, this includes exploring the legal principles for Murder, Theft, Burglary, GBH, Negligence, Occupiers liability, Psychiatric injury and Negligent Misstatement.  Law is becoming a popular subject to study at university. Students have studied law alongside Politics, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, Business, History and RP.

What skills do students acquire?

Studying Law gives students an understanding of the role of Law in today's society and raises their awareness of the rights and responsibilities of individuals.  By learning about legal rules and how and why they apply to real life, students also develop their analytical ability, decision making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. All these skills are highly sought after by higher education and employers.

Assessment:

The assessments enable students to show their breadth of knowledge and understanding of legal issues.  A mixture of question types including multiple choice, short answer and extended response questions are used to assess students. Two milestones are completed every half term; providing students the opportunity to embed their  knowledge and build confidence of how to write, be prepared for examinations and to understand examiner expectations.
